Hot Rolled Steel Plate

Our hot rolled steel plates are sourced directly from qualified mills. We check the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and surface condition of each batch before shipment to keep the material consistent with the specified requirements.

We supply commonly used grades including ASTM A36, A572, EN S235, S275 and S355, JIS SS400, and GB Q235 and Q355. Other grades can be supplied on request.

The plates are used for bridges, warehouses, machinery components, structural steelwork, and other industrial projects. Different thicknesses and sizes are available depending on the application and order requirements.

Hot Rolled Steel Plate Grades

Hot rolled steel plate can be classified by carbon content as low-carbon steel (C ≤ 0.25%), medium-carbon steel (C 0.25–0.60%), and high-carbon steel (C ≥ 0.60%). Based on alloy content, it can be divided into low-alloy steel, with a total alloy content of up to 5%, and medium- and high-alloy steel.

These steels offer good ductility and toughness, along with good machinability and weldability, making them suitable for a wide range of structural and industrial applications.

Compared with cold-rolled steel plate, hot rolled steel plate is processed at higher temperatures, offers a wider thickness range, but has a rougher surface finish and can be as thin as 0.78 mm.

Hot Rolled vs. Cold Rolled Steel Plate

Hot rolled and cold rolled steel plates differ in production method, surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and mechanical properties.

Feature Hot Rolled Steel Plate Cold Rolled Steel Plate
Rolling Process Rolled at high temperatures Rolled at room temperature
Thickness Generally available in thicker sections Mainly used for thinner sections
Surface Finish Rougher surface with mill scale Smoother and cleaner surface
Dimensional Accuracy Moderate Higher
Ductility Generally higher Lower after work hardening
Strength Lower in the as-rolled condition Higher due to work hardening
Formability Good Good, depending on grade
Cost Generally lower Generally higher
Common Applications Structural steel, machinery, bridges, construction Automotive parts, appliances, precision components

Hot rolled steel plate is commonly used for heavy structural work, while cold rolled steel is used for applications requiring a smoother surface and tighter dimensional tolerances.

Applications

Hot rolled steel plates are used for shipbuilding, automotive frames and beams, bridges, machinery, pressure vessels, and other structural components. They are commonly supplied in thicknesses of 4 mm and above for heavy-duty applications.
